Quan Van NoVa

   







This is a site to promote the love of Viet music and non-profits performance of the same, in the Northern Virginia area and vincinity. It's also a place for Viet musicians to meet and exchange ideas; and to coordinate music activities in the same area.

Why Quán Văn Nova? Because we would like to model this effort after the Quán Văn of old, where Viet music is performed and enjoyed for its own sake. No DVD/CD sales; no cause (other than music) to promote/support; no funds to raise; no half-dressed dancers; no spotlights; no ritzes-n-glitzes; just music. The music itself can be old, new, covers, or original. The venue may be a coffee house, a community center, a basement, a backyard, some cozy place where friends can meet, enjoy, and share. The medium will be acoustic, pure and simple: there will be no pre-programmed, pre-recorded, synthesized music. The format will be similar to an open-mike, in that anyone can participate, so long as one is committed to delivering quality music. The quality of the music is an absolute must: it is not meant to be a jam session, but rather a performance of a finished, well-crafted product.

(A note re. Quality vs. Type: "Types" of music could be folk, jazz, Vọng Cổ, Tao Đàn style of poetry, etc. We welcome all types of music, so long as it is rehearsed, finished, i.e., "quality" music.)

The hope is that we can once again enjoy music for what it truly is, and in our own beautiful language.
